Karate 2013 Joel Ferrell Award Winners

Karate is pleased to present Jackie Mirza and Trevor Caudy with the 2013 Joel Ferrell Outstanding Performance Memorial Award. The Joel Ferrell Award is presented each year to an athlete who demonstrates outstanding athletic accomplishments and sportsmanship.  This year’s award was presented by Jo Mirza, the AAU Karate National Chair. 

The Joel Ferrell Award in Karate is presented to a male and female athlete who received a gold medal in Kata, Kobudo, and Kumite during the AAU Junior Olympic Games.  

Jackie is 16 years old and is from Barrington, Illinois and studies under Sensei Linda Donner at TKO Nisei Dojo.  Jackie has been a National Champion for the past five years and is going to be a junior at Barrington High School in the Fall.

Trevor is 16 years old and is from West Harrison, Indiana and studies under Sensei Ben Nishime at Nishime Family Karate.
