During the 2013 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Detroit, Michigan the AAU Karate National Committee hosted their annual AAU Karate Team Trials.

On Saturday, August 3rd athletes checked in at the COBO Convention Center in downtown Detroit, Michigan to participate in the 2013 AAU Karate Team Trials which was held in conjunction with the 2013 AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Over 50+ athletes participated in this one day event where they were assessed in the following areas:  Cardiovascular Endurance, Functional Movement Screening, Kata and Kumite.  The event was a complete success thanks to all of the participants, officials and coaches that took part.

Mr. Jo Mirza, AAU Karate National Chair spoke to the National Coaching Staff at the conclusion of the event and they all felt that the caliber of our athletes improves each year, making the AAU Karate program the best young karate-ka in our country if not the world.

We are very thankful for the countless hours our Sensei’s and instructors invest in our athletes.   Our program would not be able to field these great teams with you!

The national committee is in the process of reviewing their recommendations over the next several weeks.  There goal is to select and develop the best team for the 2014 season and once again show the world why the AAU/USA Karate Team is number one!

The team trials are a continued success and we are looking forward to an even better event next year at the 2014 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines, Iowa!
