The third annual scholarship was presented to two very deserving AAU Karate athletes during the AAU Karate National Championships Opening Ceremonies on Wednesday, June 28th at Pharmed Arena on the campus of Florida International University.

AAU Karate Scholarships are awarded annually to a young man and a young woman who have participated in AAU Karate for a minimum of four years and excel in all they do.

The female recipient for the scholarship was Kristen Dawson of American Institute of Japanese Karate (AIJK) from Albany, New York. Kristen has been a member of AAU Karate for the past 12 years and studies under Sensei Tony Butler.

The male recipient for the scholarship was Andrew Gates of Florida Karate Academy from Vero Beach, Florida. Andrew has been a member of AAU Karate for the past 10 years and studies under Sensei Dave Roth.
