The AAU Karate National Championships took place June 26th through July 2nd in Miami, Florida at the Pharmed Arena on the campus of Florida International University.

 

The weeklong event hosted approximately 1,800 athletes from the age of 5 years old to senior adults in Kata, Kumite, and Kobudo for beginners, novice, intermediate and advanced levels of traditional Karate. Athletes present ranged from all over the United States including but not limited to: Arizona, California, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, and a host of others.

 

At the first part of the week, Coaches and Officials took part in Masters Seminars hosted by some of the finest Karate-Ka practitioners in the world.

 

Congratulations to the top three clubs in attendance 1st Place: Williams Martial Arts & Fitness from Ashburn, Virginia, 2nd Place: Jesus Costas Karate Club from Miami, Florida, and 3rd Place: Focus Martial Arts from Illinois.

 
 

The third annual scholarship was presented to two very deserving AAU Karate athletes during the Opening Ceremonies on Wednesday, June 28th. The scholarship went to Kristen Dawson of American Institute of Japanese Karate (AIJK) from Albany, New York and Andrew Gates of Florida Karate Academy from Vero Beach, Florida.
